Frequently Asked Questions

What is Feathertouch?

Feathertouch or Microblading is the skill of manual semi-permanent eyebrow shaping

Will it hurt?

There is minor pain at the beginning of each session, it is uncomfortable but not unbearable - but hey it is a form of tattoo right!?. Generally, if you feel scared or if you have your period you can feel stronger pain, while most people compare the pain to tweezing. You can take panadol (NOT Nurofen) before your appointment to help with the pain. During the treatment, once the first set of strokes are done, and the skin is open, liquid anaesthetic is applied, this will entirely eliminate any pain for the rest of the treatment.

What shape will I get?

Choosing the shape of your eyebrows is determined by face symmetry, taking lines from your nose and eyes will give me the 3 base points of your brows. To determine thickness and arch I also take into consideration things like the fullness of your lips, whether you have big open eyes or hooded eyes, if you have high cheek bones etc. With all these factors to consider, choosing the shape is best left to the pros - the wrong shape can be a real detriment!

Your shape is outlined in pencil before we begin, this is the shape I think is the best for you. It is my personal preference to give you the most natural shape (think fluffy and soft arches).

If you are worried about shape or think you would prefer a different shape to the one I draw for you, I highly reccomend booking a consultation first. If you change your mind on the day your deposit will not be refunded.

How many treatments will I need?

Everyone needs a minimum of 2 treatments. The second is done 4-6 weeks after the first - this is when we see how the colour is holding and make any adjustments if we need to. For most people 10-15% of the strokes fade after the first session and it is normal for the brows to look patchy during this time.

Healed results can vary greatly from person to person, even your mum or sister could have completely different results to you. During the healing process (first 4 weeks post treatment) we have no control over what occurs during this time so no guarantee can be made that you will get the best results after the initial 2 treatments. You may need additional treatments, sometimes even 2 or 3.

To maintain your brows you will need a yearly touch up and after 2 years you will need a full re-do (2 treatments)

How is colour chosen?

Colour will be chosen by me and is matched to your natural brow colour. This is because each pigment has different undertones and using the incorrect pigment will cause discolouration.

The brow colour will look very dark during the first 5 to 7 days. Then it will lose 40 to 50% of its intensity.

How long will it last?

For most people it depends on the quality of your skin. There are so many factors that can cause unwanted Feathertouch results - oily skin, thin skin, acne prone skin, sensitive skin, eczema, the list goes on. But there are other things that can cause them to fade even if you have the perfect skin type, things like sweating, sun exposure and improper aftercare.

If you have any skin concerns please get in touch with me or book a consultation first.

Ideally Feathertouch lasts 10-12 months. With oily skin it is up to 6 months. The healing is fully completed after 4 weeks and this is when we see you for the second treatment. For oily skins or other concerns, you may need 2 or 3 additional sessions.

Will Feathertouch work for me?

It depends! Results vary from person to person, there are so many factors to weigh up that will alter the outcome of your Feathertouch treatment. The success of Feathertouch mostly depends on skin quality. The best results will be a skin type that isn’t too dry and isn’t too oily, where the client doesn’t have many/any skin concerns, is not on medication and follows aftercare to a T.

The oilier your skin the less colour retention you will have. Excessively dry skin, eczema or dermatitis, can cause the skin (and in turn your feathertouch) to shed faster. Thin, sensitive skin can bleed during the treatment.

It also depends on:

Medication - some can cause bleeding, blurring or poor colour retention. Aftercare, external factors, including sun exposure, sweating etc (external factors are out of our control, so even if you have the ideal skin for feathertouch and great results on the day, if aftercare is not followed results cannot be guaranteed).

If you have any concerns please contact us or book a consultation first.
